The purpose of marriage is to give life and love to the world. A married couple, by the way they fulfill their marriage vows, will love, honor and nurture each other. In Christian marriage, the relationship is also meant to be for the community–an example of what it means to be loving and faithful to another human being.
At St. Mark’s, the sacrament of marriage may be extended to all members and their families who may be legally married in Michigan. In some cases, particularly involving a prior marriage in the church, the consent of the bishop may be needed. If you wish to get married here, it is important to meet with the priest in charge to discuss your circumstances.
Marriages are not traditionally celebrated in Advent and in Lent because these are penitential seasons during which times festal liturgies, such as weddings, are not appropriate.
